<reviewbody>A nice overview of Puerto Rico, and it's many industries, which includes farming (lots of it), fishing and handcrafts. Most fasicating are the shots of a girl handweaving a blanket or whatever, and her expertise in handling 6 spindles at once. The music is great too, all spanish old style. But still, if you're not into spanish styles and customs, this may bore you out.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>For those of us born and raised there, the film offers an amazing view of yesterday`s life in rural Puerto Rico, otherwise learned of in books.Being born there in 1963, and raised in the city, I can only marvel at how the "jibaros" (country folks)lived a lifestyle with no modern comforts.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>This 40s film, made by the U.S. Department of Agricultures Extension Service, chronicles the services the Extension Service provides to rural Puerto Rican families, including training in better farming methods, help with starting home-based businesses, and starting 4-H clubs for the kids. Its pretty straightforward, though the emphasis on American values seen in a Hispanic culture is a little bit unusual in spots. Mostly, though, this is just what youd expect. It does give a historically interesting glimpse into rural life in Puerto Rico during the 40s.
Ratings: Camp/Humor Value: **. Weirdness: **. Historical Interest: ****. Overall Rating: ***.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>An interesting, albeit USA value-laden, portrayal of rural life in Puerto Rico circa 1940. Of particular note is the total absence of Black Puerto Ricans throughout the film.</reviewbody>
